A slab bream apiece for Ady Larkins and Ross Bate saw the Lager Louts win the opening round of the pairs league on a very blustery evening. Ross was standing in for Kevin Hill and put in a creditable performance from peg 27 in the Upper Wharf. Nathan Underwood had the biggest net of the evening with a 9lb bag of silvers taken from peg 32 in the upper Wharf, this was backed up by son Dan's 1lb 5ozs to tie for second spot. Fishing next to Nathan on peg 33 Dennis Chapman netted a slab bream and small carp to boost his bag to 8lb 10ozs and with Len Codlin pipping Dan by 1oz, they tied second with the Halwill Hustlers (Dennis and Len will need to come up with a Team name!). It was very close down to 7th spot with only 3 points separating four teams, but it was a bad night for the defending champions Me and My Boy who found themselves locked out in last spot, and the Bude Bay Pirates who's campaign appears to have hit the doldrums early.
