With plenty of silvers coming from the Upper Basin you needed to find some big fish to feature at the pointy end if you drew the Lower Basin. Duncan Edwards netted a brace of slabs from peg 16 but it was not enough to out weigh a fine winning 12lb bag of skimmers and a small carp banked by Nathan Underwood from peg 26. Both anglers stuck to their trusty poles whilst whip and wag'n mag tactics were bringing fish to the bank in a constant stream from the other pegs. A 10lb bag of rudd taken on the 8 metre whip from peg 32 saw Paul Braund make a rare podium appearance and a fine mixed bag of roach, rudd and perch, mostly on wag n' mag for 9lbs gave Brian Powel a section win from peg 27. A slab from peg 20 made sure of the Lower Basin section win for Simon Allen. Jean Bowden must have thought she was into a slab but had actually hooked a 2lb 14oz eel, which she landed for a new canal record.
