Torrential rain had turned the canal the colour of coffee and the weights at the end of the day looked more like a winter league contest than one held at the height of our so called summer. Simon Allen thwarted Nathan Underwood's attempt at a hat trick, winning out with three slabs, a small carp and some silvers for 16lb from peg 28. Only two ounces behind was Duncs Edwards who found himself amongst the slabs on peg 16 in the Lower Basin. Kevin Hill finished off the podium with 7lbs, a bag boosted by yet another slab bream. Bream (the ruination of a match fishery in my view!) also featured in the section winners bags, Ian Gray and Dave Allen, Dave netting a Micky at 5lbs. Brian Powell pipped Dick Turner by an ounce for fifth, if Dick had been concentrating on the fishing and not been listening to the Grand Prix things may have been different. Also, spare a thought for Ady Larkins who hooked a fish in the dying minutes of the match only to lose it half way in to register the first summer league blank to date.
