Winter League Round 5: Sunday 19th December:
The roach were back with avengence in the Lower Basin with a number of anglers catching over 100 redfins. However, it was a carp of 8lbs that boosted Mark Gratton's weight to over 12lbs for the victory off end peg 12 (fair do's, Mark had said from tthe start he was going to go for one). Watching closley on peg 14 was Simon Allen who banked over 150 fish for 9lbs 2ozs and second spot. Third place was tied between Steve Maynard and Rynan Willshire with 7lb 4ozs apiece, Ryan netting a bonus slab then losing one with 30 minutes to go (moral victory for Steve me thinks!).
It was a different story in the Second Basin with eight anglers blanking. Kevin Hill won the section with just over a 1lb of roach from peg 26 with Tony Hillas (peg 28) being the only other angler to weigh. We have now reached that time of year when we need to carefully consider pegging the Second Basin!
Afterwards everyone enjoyed an excellent meal in the Brendon Arms and thanks go out to Rob and Aron from Waterfront Shooting and Fishing who supported us, along with Kate and Matt Sampson from the Barge who provided all the anglers with a warming soup and roll. To finish the evening off, £51 was raised for the Association charity from the draw.
