Winter League R5 - Sunday 12th February
For the second match the Lower Basin was 're-pegged' meaning pegs 5 to 14 were between normal pegs 13 and 20, this was to get as many into thois section as possible. The narrows section pegs 1-4a were roughly on the original pegs (we had a 4a due to a counting failure at the draw!).
It was a battle of the end pegs as Matt Sampson on peg 1 bagged two carp (12lbs and 15lbs) with a couple of bream using the orange wafter casting towards the lock gates for a 34lb winning weight. Ryan Willshire off peg 14 (normal peg 20) used the long pole to bag decent skimmers all day to bank an impressive 29lbs for second. Paul Braund banked a 16lb mirror off peg 3 using a bread flake wafter on his first cast to take third place, it was his only fish of the day with the three remaining anglers blanking in that section.
The Lower Basin was also a tale of two halves with the bream all shoaled up towards the higher numbers leaving many anglers scratching for bits at the other end. Ade Hicks broke his personal match record to win that section with a 12lb net of skimmers taken on a combination of pole and tip.
Matt Sampson now leades the winter league by three points from Simon Allen with four matches left to fish.
