Pairs League Round 7 (Stu Bell Trophy)
Sunday 10th August
The contest started in the eye of the much forecast 'Hurricane Bertha' with a fairly quiet opening two hours followed with three hours blustery conditions. Duncan Edwards of New Team Faint Heart fished the method feeder from peg 20 and bagged over 42lbs of carp (losing a few along the way) to easily win the Lower Basin section. Partner Dick Turner ensured it was maximum for the team and a big winning margin with a 10lbs+ haul of skimmers taken on the 10 metre pole from peg 35 to win the Upper Basin.
A 10lbs bag from Ady Larkins was backed up by a close on 9lbs bag of skimmers from partner Kevin Hill to clinch second place for the Lager Louts. The Tiscott Boys had their best results of the season with a 9lb bag of roach and perch on the short whip from Paul Braund and a near 6lb bag of bream and skimmers from Tony Johns.
Even though the Halwill Hustlers finished equal 4th, it was still a good day for them as they extended their lead at the top of the league as the Codfathers and Pirates failed to get good finishes.
