Sunday 18th September - Pairs League Final Round
Sunday saw the biggest pairs turnout of the season with 12 teams contesting the last pairs match of the year. On a day when fish were hard to come by and the big fish were not interested it was important to bag those silvers early before the sun put them off the feed.
Reigning champions the Halwill Hustlers did what they had to do to try and defend their title. An end peg draw from Nathan Underwood saw him bag 14lbs to win his section easily and with partner Ian Gray coming second in his section it was an assured victory on the day. However, the title was lost as Simon Allen won his section and Dave Allen finished third, each with 7lb bags of silvers to take the runners up spot and the overall pairs league title for Me and My Boy.
It was a a close battle for third but New Team Faint Heart clinched it by a point with Dick Turner taking a 7lb bag of silvers for second in his section and Pete Slade finishing 5th in the Lower Basin section.
That is it for another year, with the increasing popularity of the league we may need to find bigger sections!
