Sunday 16th September - Summer League R8
Reg Howard Cup
It was no surprise that the fine weather and light winds would see the largest bags coming from the Lower Basin, and those drawing 'red' duly delivered with the top 5 weights coming from this section. The top three had a look of the late 1980's with three of the longest competing BCAA World Championship anglers filling the podium places. Dick Turner came out on top banking close to 16lbs of skimmers with a bonus slab on the long pole from peg 19. Brian Powel rounded off an excellent campaign by securing victory in the Summer League with a 13lb 8oz bag of silvers for second from adjacent peg 18 (a great achievement given Brian also missed a competition). Youngster of the podium, Paul Braund, finshed third with 11lbs of skimmers and roach from peg 15 taken on the long and short whip, 11ozs in front of Steve Whitehouse who won the Lower Basin default section from peg 16 with a 10lb 5oz mixed bag of silvers taken on the pole.
The Second Basin section was won by Ady Larkins with 7lbs of pole caught redfins from end peg 34, in what was a closly fought section where the bream did not show up as anticipated.
Just a reminder that there is a Team Match v North Devon on Sunday 29th September, after which the winter league will commence with the Paul Drissel Trophy on Sunday 14th October.
