Winter League Round 3, Sunday 10th November:
With double figure bags of silvers coming out in the week, there was confidence of a few decent weights (at least in the Lower Basin), but as is so often the case, come match day everything changed.
On a day dominated by punch caught roach (many complaining afterwards they had not brought any bread!), you really needed a bonus fish to get into the money. It was a big old 4lb slab that gave Simon Allen the bonus he needed to give him his first victory of the year on Bude Canal. Mark Gratton stuck at the bigger stuff, alternating between pole, waggler and tip to find five bites for five fish and a 4lb bag of skimmers for second place. Paul Braund managed to keep the punch going all day off peg 13 and banked 84 roach for 2lbs 1oz, with no fish over an ounce!
Section wins went to Dick Turner in the Lower Basin with 2lbs and Tony Johns in the Second Basin with 1lb 5ozs, both finding a skimmer or two.
Jack Crystal did manage to find some fish off end peg 33 and won the Junior Section with 5ozs.
