Report From Sunday 12th
The canal reverted to type with a typical winter match seeing those in the Second Basin struggle all day and the slabs showing from the Lower Basin in the last hour to reward the patient and frustrate the sprat bashers. Dick Turner found two slab bream from peg 19 in that 'golden' last hour to take a clear victory by an 8lb margin. Len Codlin, fishing his favourite peg, also found a couple of slabs to boost his net to 7lbs, nudging Peter 'Tacker' Giles into third who's bream were not quite as big. Paul Braund won the 'bits' race in fourth with 4lb 1oz of skimmers and roach taken on the bread flake, just two ounces in front of League Leader Simon Allen who stuck it out for small roach on the bread punch to win the Second Basin section. The Chairman and Match Secretary (not bitter at all) will now be considering bringing the match start times forward by an hour next year!
