Sunday 17th March 2024 - Winter League R8
With all the dredging activity it was decided to re-locate Sundays match to Rodds Bridge end of the canal. The heavy rain on Saturday and overnight had coloured the water but at least the anglers had dry sunny conditions for the duration of the match. There were two secions with pegs 1 - 7 downstream from Rodds Bridge, and pegs 18 -23 on Whoopers Bend (Open Corner).
With the silvers being hard to come by (punch bread and pinkie being the only thing that appeared to work) it was not a surprise that carp freatured in the first two places. Andy Southy bagged a 10lb speciman off peg 20 which with few silvers won the contest by 1lb from Adrian Hill. Adrian had bagged a few more silvers than Andy but the carp he banked after an epic battle on the pole was 8lbs. Matt Sampson bagged a couple of late bream to bank over 7lbs of silvers fishing the pole for third off section end peg 7.
Steve Whitehouse found a few quality silvers to win the Rods Bridge section with 5lbs 6ozs and Dave Allen netted two good skimmers in the last 30 minutes to take his weight over 6lbs and win the Whoopers Bend section. Steve and Dave remain 1st and second in the league respectively but it will need a 13 point reversal to knock Steve off the top.
A quick reminder that the Jan Pethick/Johnny Coney memorial competition has been resheduled from 31st March to the 7th April, and the last chance match to the 14th April.
