Summer League Round 2, Sunday 21st June:
It was the Bird Hide show again on Sunday with four of the top six weights coming from this section. However, it was a bag of skimmers rather than carp that won the day with Peter Slade fishing at six metres to bring over 30lbs of blades, skimmers and rudd to the scales. Nathan Underwood stuck to the long pole and bagged nearly 20lbs of blades and skimmers from the second basin as the big slabs where conspicuous by their absence in this match. Ian Gray also bagged up with 15lbs of silvers from Bird Hide peg 42 which was enough for third place. Ady Larkins did find a couple of small 3lb+ carp from the Bird Hide reeds to boost his net to over 11lbs and clinch fourth.
There were section wins for Simon Allen in the Lower Basin, Tony Johns in the Upper Basin (including a 2lb 1oz perch), and Brian Powel from the prolific Bird Hide section.
The early league has a familiar look with Nathan Underwood and Simon Allen in contention, but Ian Gray and Peter Slade are still in touch. The rest of us are scratching our heads!
