Sunday 15th September - Summer League Round 8 (Reg Howard Trophy)
The forecast of increasingly worsening weather proved correct with the match ending in torrential rain and gale force winds. On the day you really needed to be pegged in the Lower Basin to feature with the first six top weights coming from that section. Norma King certainly had the tactics right for the appalling conditions, fishing her favoured sweetcorn from peg 12 to land two carp around the 9lb and 15lb mark, enough to easily win the Reg Howard Trophy. Dave Allen and Nathan Underwood slugged it out on the pole for second with Dave for once 'out slabbing' the Breamaster by a couple of pounds to beat Nathan into second spot. Ady Larkins had a good bag of silvers bolstered by a bonus carp for a 12lb section win in the Lower Basin, whilst Pete Horton took the honours winning the Second Basin section with an 8lb bag. Peter Giles 'retired hurt' as the effects of the previous nights 'Taliskers' failed to wear of as the weather worsened (we've all been there!).
With one match remaining in the Summer League it looks all over with Simon Allen having what must be an uncatchable lead of 13 points over Nathan Underwood.
