Sunday 9th December - Winter League Round 3
It was 'proper' winter fishing as many anglers had to choose between chasing the bigger fish or eeking out ounces on the bread punch. Ian Gray continued his run of good form and persisted with the pole and worm in the windy conditions to bring a winning bag of slabs and a 3lb carp to the scales for close on 15lbs. Conditions were a little easier in the second basin where Nathan Underwood charmed a brace of bream on pole and worm to go joint top of the league with a number of small roach taken on the wag'n mag for a net of over 12lbs. Duncan Edwards drew the unfancied peg 20 but bagged some bream and a small carp to finish third with 10lbs to join Nathan at the top of the league. Len Codlin took the Lower Basin section with a 7lbs net, boosted by a very late slab. Dave Allen won the second basin and for two matches in a row anglers got a full view of his detachable landing net, luckily for Dave the bream decided to stay in the net so he was able to bank it and add it to his catch of roach for over 6lbs.
It is all very tight at the top of the league and with the Fur and Feather next week there is a good opportunity for someone to put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.
