Sunday 7th August - Stu Bell Memorial Trophy

With the canal a good 18 inches down some of the anglers in the Second Basin were fishing in depths well below 2 feet but still managed to find a few fish.  It was no surprise that peg 35 delivered that sections winner with Steve Whithouse netting 8lbs of silvers that earned the Lynstone Lads a share of third place with the Brendon All Stars to keep them at the top of the league.  On adjacent peg 34 Adrian Hill netted a near 6lb bag of silvers to finish second in the section and with partner Mark Gratton finishing second in the Lower Basin with 4lbs 7ozs, the consistency was enough for a Bude Bay Pirates Victory.  The inform Tony Johns smashed the Lower Basin with an 11lbs haul of bream whilst on peg 29 fishing in just 16 inches of water partner Paul Braund struggled, but did put enough fish in the net to finish fourth in section and earning the Tiscott Boys the runner up spot.

This was the first year the Trophy was fished in memory of Stu Bell who had recently passed away.  Whilst he had not fished for a number of years Stu was a great supporter of the club and had undertaken a number of the officer roles down the years.  The trophy he donated back in 1986, when the club only had a couple, has gone on to become a great fixture in the calandar and an annual talking point.
