Summer League Round 1 - Sunday 26th May 2024
Monica Jones Cup
A day of showers and sunshine greated the anglers competing for the Association's oldest trophy at the start of the 2024 league season.
Paul Braund managed to capitalise on drawing end peg 35, fishing the 4 meter whip to bank 13lbs of silvers that included a couple of 2lb bream. It was enough to win, but only by 14ozs as Adrian Hill bagged 12lbs 2ozs of skimmers on the long pole from peg 14 to finish second. Andy Southey also used the long pole to good effect (it was not a feeder day) banking 10lbs of skimmers for third.
Brian Powel bagged 9lbs of silvers including three of the newly stocked tench to take the Second Basin section from peg 31, the Lower Basin section went to the improving Colin Abbot with an ounce short of 4lbs off peg 19. Alfie Yates would have won that section had he been a senior, banking a creditable 4lbs 1oz from peg 13 to win the junior section (finishing 8th overall).
So no need to use the blanket weight on the opening match of the season, I suspect it will not stay that way.
