Pairs League Round 7 - Stu Bell Trophy
Sunday 9th August
The expected 20lb bags of skimmers did not materialise as anglers struggled to find fish on the long pole and groundbait. Going for the carp was the answer and this paid off for Duncan Edwards on peg 13 who netted two fish to win the Lower Basin section with over 18lbs. Partner Ian 'Cosmic' Croxton was fourth in the Second Basin but their combined points tally won them the match by 2pts. Paul Braund used a carp rod from fancied peg 35, bagging a common and a mirror to win the section with 22lbs (for the record this included 10lbs of silvers on the 7m whip!). Partner Tone Johns needed one more point to push the Tiscott Boys onto the podium but in the end they had to settle for fourth.
The league leaders battled it out and finished joint second with 14pts each, the New Halwill Hustlers still leading Me and My Boy by a point, even though the wheels came off for Dave (literally) before the start.
