Summer League R1 2016

Summer League Round 1,  Monica Jones Cup, Sunday 22nd May:

The opening contest turned out to be a repeat of last year with the winner coming from the fancied Bird Hide peg 47 with a shed load of carp! (is that 'blanket weight' I hear some of you call, or is it just me?)

Matt Sampson pole fished paste and in a two and half hour carp bonanza banked five fish for 23lbs and big double figure winning margin.  In the following two and a half hours with the sun on the water Matt never had a bite!  Mike Bowden was fishing four pegs up stream on peg 43 and bagged an 8lb specimen which combined with a few silvers went close to 10lbs for second place. It was a battle of the silvers for third place with Nathan Underwood 'out skimmering' Simon Allen by 4ozs, both brining 8lb+ bags of numerous small fish to the bank.

Bonus fish brought section wins for Dave Allen (carp) on the Bird Hide, Tony Hilias (bream) in the Second Basin and Derek Foster (bream) in the Lower Basin.  For everyone else it was a hard day scratching, particularly after the sun broke through. Unusual catch of the day went to Keir Durrant, fishing as a senior for the first time, who landed a 2oz flounder.

And a reminder to Kev Hill to set the alarm clock, the draw is 7am in a fortnight when we all fish again for the Tom King Memorial Trophy.
