Winter League Round 5, Sunday 13th December:
The annual Fur and Feather contest for the Brian Putt Trophy attracted 29 anglers on what was an overcast but dry day. There were a lot of small roach caught on the pinkies and bread punch but at 4 fish to the ounce it was hard work and if you didn't find that bonus fish then you were in danger of being in biscuit territory come the choosing of prizes!
There were a few better quality fish to be found and the Bird Hide was the place to draw with all three of the top places coming from this section. Shaun Stenton netted a double figure carp in the last half hour after a long battle with the reeds on his elasticated pole, the fish gave Shaun the victory by 6lbs. On nearby pegs Peter Slade and Nathan Underwood where finding a few bits and it was Peter who came out on top beating Nathan by 4ozs for second place.
Ian Gray did find a 2lb slab to boost his net to 4lbs in the Lower Basin and Jean Bowden netted a number of silvers for a 3lb haul but they were only good enough for their respective section wins. Ady Larkins won the section down at the sluices where all the anglers caught and all finished in the top half.
