Summer League R5 2018

Summer League Round 5, Sunday 8th July:

The clever money was on another Second Basin shut out and those drawing green walked off to their pegs in high expectation. As it turned out, a large number of silvers had moved into the Lower Basin and with colour in the water and the sun shining brightly, the first three places came from this section.

Matt Sampson bagged a 9lb carp early doors from peg 20 and with anglers catching regularly elsewhere he wisely moved onto the silvers bagging 6lbs of them for a 15lb winning bag.  Simon Hockaday (long pole peg 15) and Paul Braund (short whip peg 16) were going fish for fish throughout the 5 hours thinking they were chasing a consolation section prize, both anglers eventualy weighing 11lbs + of silvers.  Simon won the race for what turned out to be  second with a small bream in the last few minutes, edging Braunders into third by 4ozs (those drop offs really hurt on such occasions!).

Simon Allen managed a bag of silvers an ounce shy of 11lbs to take the Second Basin section with Dick Turner just behind on peg 35 with 9lbs.  Ady Larkins picked up the Lower Basin section with another double figure 10lb bag of silvers and Adrian Hill ended the pay out with 7lbs and runner up in section.  It was the toughest day yet for Junior angler Jack Crystal fishing off peg 28, but he still managed 12ozs of silvers to win the Junior prize.

It will be interesting to see how it fishes for the pairs on Tuesday evening, expectations are sky high for larger than average catches from both basins.
